There is no quick pill, or destination for our success as leaders and student leaders. Especially with the emotionally volatile state we find in high school sports and activities. Gradual processes embraced with conviction will bring long term success that will get easier, or Chronic Success.

Starting Point - Your “Self” (Core Self)

Parts VS “Core Self” - Self awareness as a leader is the only real starting point. How do you handle emotional situations?

  • 90/10 Principle: We only consciously use 10% of our brains. What is the 90% that is unused?

  • Like computer programs in the background taking resources and effecting results even though they aren’t seen.

  • 2 Types

    • Exiles (Trauma) - Everyone experiences trauma. It is a highly emotional experience without a lot of understanding. The mind naturally works to hide the resulting memories & emotions.

    • Managers (Coping) - The mind uses distraction, judgement, confusion to keep us from being aware of the results of previous experiences that are uncomfortable (Trauma).

“Core Self”

  • This resulting state that we can experience is truly who we are.

  • Allows FLOW:

    • In positive psychology, a flow state, also known colloquially as being in the zone, is the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity. In essence, flow is characterized by the complete absorption in what one does, and a resulting transformation in one's sense of time.

  • Disconnecting from triggered parts and “centering yourself” in your Core Self results in (8 Cs)...

Connections (Transactions)

Leadership is Sales: Successful leadership is more about inspiring others to follow you based on the benefit they receive than it is commanding them to follow you because of the benefit you receive (job or title).

Cost Benefit Analysis

Result - Cost = Benefit, Profitable Relationships are Profitable Transactions. 

Everyone is attracted to what they see as “Profitable” future engagement naturally. ROI indicates future desires.

When a leader is centered, or operating from their “Core Self”, they are aware of the real benefit and actual cost of a situation. They can see how to strengthen the connection very easily.

Relationships (Business, Leadership, Love)

Choice, NOT Control: Do not attempt to control more than your part of the connection. Own your 50%, 100%. When people feel they don’t have a choice there is a natural opposition that is triggered. Therefore, Choice not NEED, is the power.

Community (Tribe)

Culture is a result of many interactions, not a single action
